Mentorship anyone?

"Black men need jobs. Ex-offenders need jobs, records expunged, opportunities or they will re-offend. Increase the viable decent-paying job opportunities. Reduce the recidivism rate."
- Larenz Tate, age 41, Los Angeles

I feel like we need more programs and/or more resources and/or more participation in encouraging and uplifting and looking out for our young ones. Let them know that they don't have to follow in the footsteps of relatives or the homies from the block. There's options and prison doesn't have to be one of them. With the way the murder rate is climbing, it seems we may have an entire generation wiped clean away, by prison and death, leaving behind fatherless and motherless children. And we all know the foster system, like the justice system, is not a place that you want them to end up. The now school-aged children are the future leaders of the world, if we even have a world left to lead. And our children are about to be the working class in society (currently 18+). Are they prepared?

But it's so taboo for us to seek help. It's sickening. We're covering a lot of things that should be exposed and dealt with. We need to change that. And, we have the power to change that. But it's going to take ALL of us. We will truly have to be our brother's and sister's keepers. And not keep up with whom is not doing this or that or using others' level of participation as a guide on how much or how little we do.

I feel like we need a task force of sorts, to assist us with life. We need a life insurance task force. A finance task force. An education task force. A justice task force. A credit task force. A home ownership task force. A tax task force. An "Adulting" task force. A mental health task force. A medical task force. A home economics task force. An investment/stock/bonds task force. A childcare/CPR task force. A learning to swim task force. A tactical/firearm training and safety task force. A nursing home/assisted living task force. A homeless task force. A veteran task force. An international vacation and travel task force. A citizenship task force.

A graduated assistance task force. What's that you ask? Anyone that has been on assistance, getting them the help and guidance that they would require to wean off of assistance and sustain on their own. And ensuring that with their best efforts and practices, that they won't have to return to it. With these task forces, we have a team of people researching any and everything on each subject and bringing the information to the masses to implement and practice.

I know that this started off about men because hey, they are supposed to be the head of the household. The men are supposed to be protecting us, leading us, providing for us. But what happens when they are not taught to lead?

To be continued...

In the meanwhile, here are links to a few resources that promote second chances for felons because well sometimes...

I also feel like, we need to see if we can also put a strong focus on catching them before they have a CHANCE to become a felon. More focus on mentorship.
